BROCHURES FOR AN INFORMED CITIZENRY

The Hugo Neighborhood Association & Historical Society (Hugo Neighborhood and/or HUNAHS) has an education program in the form of a series of brochures that attempt to be responsive to land use and history issues in our community. The use of "HUNAHS" is, we hope, a way to use the magic vowel "U" in the word Hugo so we too can have our own county-wide catchword. Say it like you say Hugo, HU-NAHS.

 

The Hugo Neighborhood promotes the social welfare of our Hugo neighbors by collecting, preserving, interpreting, and researching its rich local history, including story telling and oral histories, and encouraging neighbor's interest in the history of the Hugo area, in their geographic place, in their community.

Investigate and talk to your neighbor before you act on land use issues. It would be advisable for you to become knowledgeable about the Josephine County Comprehensive Plan and Josephine County Rural Land Development Code in order to help your neighbors with understanding their land use standards.

Attitude Respect the views of your neighbors. Take care of them and they will take care of you.

Communicate Get to know your neighbors; they can help you and maybe you can help them.

Develop Your History Develop your own personal oral history. The quality of rural life in Hugo is enhanced through citizen knowledge of its history and the sense of community that a historical perspective facilitates.

Take Care Of Your Place Become involved in your geographic place, in your community. Local community involvement rewards everybody.
